Located in the heart of Downey, the Rio San Gabriel Dog Park is a popular destination for dog owners looking for a clean, safe, and friendly environment for their pets to play and socialize. Set within a larger park, this dog-friendly retreat offers expansive, shaded areas with lush green grass and a refreshing breeze from the nearby L.A. River, making it a pleasant spot for both pets and their owners.
The dog park features large separate sections for small and large dogs, each securely fenced for off-leash fun. There are plenty of benches and shaded areas, as well as convenient parking at both the front and rear of the park, including EV charging stations. Other amenities include restrooms, a children’s playground, sports courts, picnic tables, and beautiful mountain views—making it a great option for families as well as pet lovers. The park is known for being well-maintained and regularly cleaned, offering a relaxed atmosphere even during weekends.
The dog area is large, one are for large dogs and the other for small. The only issue was that both areas are all sand it would dust up the air had to give my dog a bath he was so dirty.

Clean park even cleaning crew working in the weekend. You don’t see that in other cities. Anyways I was going to take a day for me but it ended up being a day foe my dog Miles. He made some new friends and even some rivals over who drinks more water.. Yeah that’s my dog making friends.

Saturday 9.18.21 just after 12pm the park was surprisingly not busy on such a perfect day. Hey not a complaint at all. Got to relax and let the pupp roam around. Really chill vibes. Albeit this is my first time here so I haven’t experienced a busy day.
