Nestled along the scenic Potomac River, Riverbend Park is one of Northern Virginia’s hidden gems for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. With its pet-friendly trails, tranquil riverside views, and connection to neighboring Great Falls National Park, this park is a top pick for dog owners seeking a peaceful escape. Enjoy miles of easy, flat hiking trails perfect for dog-friendly adventure, family strolls, or relaxed riverside picnics.
The park is celebrated for its abundance of activities—including hiking, birdwatching, kayaking, and educational programs—making it more than just a green space. Amenities here include large picnic areas (many with views of the river), shaded walking paths, and ample parking. Although Riverbend Park doesn’t feature a dedicated off-leash or fenced dog park area, its welcoming environment and natural beauty make it ideal for leashed walks and pet-friendly outings.
Found this park while Geocaching, which happens regularly. Several bus loads of kids here today, and they had the visits set up so well! Some great classes for the kids. The Visitor Center is very nice. Lots of space for gathering. And the trail along the Potomac is really nice- and will take you into Great Falls National Park. A really nice nature getaway.

Great park with plenty of activities happening throughout the week! Lots of trails heading in north directions along the river- we walked about one mile from the visitors center and reached the Potomac dam which has great views. The trails were well taken care of. I arrived around 9am and there was plenty of parking and not too many other people on the trail

My favorite local park to go for a walk along the Potomac with family and dog. The Potomac Heritage trail (away from Great Falls Park) is an easy trail that follows the river. Toy can pack a light lunch and enjoy it after a 6 mile stroll at the visitor center or picnic benches.
