Located at Lake Skannatati, the Arden-Surebridge / Long Path Trailheads offers outdoor-loving dog owners access to one of the best dog-friendly hiking experiences in Southfields, New York. This area serves as a gateway to the scenic and diverse trails of Harriman State Park, featuring well-maintained paths, beautiful lakes, streams, and breathtaking overlooks. It’s a true retreat for pet owners seeking dog-friendly trails and a peaceful escape from city life.
Dogs are welcome on leash throughout the many miles of pet-friendly trails, making this a popular spot for walking, running, or hiking with your canine companion. There is a small off-leash area, though it is limited in size (roughly two 10×10 sections) and not fenced. The parking lot conveniently accommodates 40–50 cars, ensuring easy access to the trails, with options ranging from easy strolls to longer, more challenging adventures through woods, rivers, and rocky terrain.

There are lots of options from this trailhead, and it is my favorite in Harriman. The distance ranges are pretty wide too. Great spot, and only gets a 4 due to some wet spots and a few unmarked trails – bring a good app/phone, and you will be fine.

This parking lot has place for around 40 – 50 cars and from here a lot of different hikes can be started. The last hike was a point-to-point hike and this parking lot was one of the two used for.
