🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
First Responders Park & River Access stands out as a picturesque spot for outdoor lovers and dog owners in Belmont, New York. This scenic park features a network of pet-friendly trails winding through meadows, woodlands, and alongside the Genesee River, making it ideal for dog-friendly hiking and peaceful walks. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views, historic railroad beds, and the beauty of wildflowers and wildlife, all within a well-maintained and clean park.
Dog owners will find ample parking, trail loops for walks of various lengths (from short strolls to over an hour), and several benches and scenic overlooks for rest and relaxation. There are dog waste bags provided at the entrance, and trash bins in the parking area—reminding owners to keep this serene spot beautiful for everyone. While there is river access (great for cautious dog swimming), note that leeches have been reported in the water, so take care if dogs enter. Although the park does not offer fenced or separate dog zones, the open, natural setting is perfect for leashed exploration in the heart of Allegany County.
I want to give this place a 5 for the beauty of the scenery and access to the water. It is a great little spot to hike through with watershoes, or just sit and dip your feet in, but be careful where you sit. Every spot we sat in that was IN the water, we came out with little leaches stuck to us. They were everywhere, and they were ferocious. Tiny little suckers, and they got stuck to anything that touched the rocks in the water. We were fine when we were walking. Didn’t notice any on our feet or shoes, but soon as any other clothing or body part touched the rocks under the water, they were there in large numbers. So, if you’re going in the water, beware, and bring someone you trust with you who can check you for leaches when you come out of the water. They didn’t hurt us, they were just super gross.

This place is so peaceful, and just absolutely breathtaking. I would suggest if you happen to come out here, bring a book and some lunch and just relax!

A peaceful spot for a short walk or picnic. I’m told the fishing is great.

Great little park next to the water, easy fishing access. There’s a walkway down to a bench that overlooks the falls. Nice place to hang out and relax.
