Hess Recreation Area is a renowned spot for Danville, Pennsylvania locals and visitors seeking an all-in-one outdoor destination, including pet-friendly amenities. Set in a scenic landscape along with trails by the stream, this park is ideal for dog owners looking for pleasant walks, fun playtime, and fresh air. While not exclusively labeled as a designated dog park, it’s a popular place for dog-friendly hiking, jogging, and strolling with your furry friend. The well-maintained grassy trails are perfect for a leisurely walk, offering beautiful river and farmland views that are especially enjoyable year-round.
This recreation area goes beyond just walking opportunities with amenities such as sports fields, playgrounds, parking, picnic tables and pavilions, outdoor showers near the pool, and clean restrooms during pool season. While shade is limited around the playground area, there are covered pavilions in the park for shelter and relaxation. It’s a great location for families—with or without four-legged members—and provides accessible facilities for everyone. Please note that some reviews mention the importance of tick prevention during summer visits.
The must have patched the gravel road since last year! It’s a joy to be here now! The restrooms are nice. I’m honestly grateful that a tiny park like this has that option. The outdoor showers are a unique experience, but get the job done, and for what the field offers it is a well cared for park! The trail to the creek is just adorable and great for a hot Summer day stroll.
A staple of Danville recreation. The “go to” place to go to on any day off. Whether you’re walking your dog, picnicking or just in need of some fresh air. Trails by the stream, charcoal grills and a skate park. A utopia for fungi and mushrooms in the spring, summer and autumn. Plenty of photo opportunities and excellent aesthetic. A prime location for kites and bubble blowing. 10/10 will go again and again.
Great place to ride bikes with little kids. We had a lot of fun together! And it’s a beautiful place.
My first time here. Nice facilities, parking area and trails.
Attended Danville Heritage Days at Hess field. Excellent learning experiences for young and old! Van Wagner did a fabulous job!
