Located in Wallkill, New York, The Woodlands Luxury Pet Resort & Spa offers pet owners a trusted destination for dog boarding, daycare, and pampering. Known for its attentive staff and clean, spacious facilities, this dog park and pet resort stands out for the individualized care and comfortable accommodations provided to its four-legged guests. Many local pet owners praise the resort’s communication, sharing positive experiences about regular updates, photos, and caring staff members, making it a popular choice for those seeking peace of mind while away from their pets.
This dog-friendly facility features private rooms, outdoor time for dogs of different sizes, and an entertaining add-on menu including hikes, treats, and even the option to enjoy the pool. The Woodlands aims to create a stress-free and enjoyable environment, especially for dogs who are anxious or need special attention. Although some concerns have been raised about overnight routines and supervision, many owners report that their pups look forward to returning for both daycare and extended stays, highlighting the unique, engaging dog resort experience in the Wallkill area.
We chose this kennel because it advertised itself as a “luxury pet resort” and because our pup loves water. We felt like they were misleading lots of overnight owners so we had to post this review in the hopes the owner decides to change their policies.
In case you aren’t told or are unaware, dogs are put to bed at 6 PM right after being fed dinner and not let out again until 7 AM — a 13-hour stretch without a bathroom break and without any interaction (!!!). This was insane to me when I found out. I looked it up and this is far beyond the 8–10 hours recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association and Humane Society. Going that long without relief can lead to urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and kidney issues, especially for young dogs still developing bladder control. We were told dogs only get an evening break if they’re awake or pacing, which means they have to be in visible distress during the one time period someone checks in at night. We only found this out the morning after his first night when he had an accident in his room. I couldn’t believe they would feed him dinner and then not take him on a potty break and keep him alone and cooped up for a 13-hour stretch!?
We then offered to pay additional on top of the luxury villa he was already in to get him a guaranteed potty break. This should be a basic standard…
On top of this, when we picked him up, he had two separate cuts on his nose, one from the first night that they said was from his “accident” (??) and another unexplained at pickup. We were given multiple contradictory explanations — the carpet, doggy door, “kennel nose” and “we don’t know” — indicating no one actually saw what happened. Its less about the injury and more about not actually knowing what happened that still bothers me. Injuries that cause bleeding should be noticed, documented, and communicated to owners right away if supervision is truly continuous, as it should be.
For the cost and the “luxury” promise, we wanted him to be safe at a bare minimum and that didn’t happen. If your dog is much older, you might be alright but it doesn’t change the fact that this policy is wrong. It really haunts me that they operate overnights this way and I hope management reviews their overnight and incident-tracking policies so future dogs are better protected. Maybe stick to day stays?
The staff is incredible! My dog is very anxious around new people, so we brought him to daycare a few times before boarding him. We picked him up today after a weekend of boarding and were very pleased. The staff consistently was in contact with me sending updates, nice messages and lots of pictures! They made sure to let me know he was doing okay and got more comfortable as time went on. He has really opened up during his time here and I am thankful to have a place I feel comfortable bringing him. He will be back for daycare and boarding in the future!!! 🙂
A Beautiful place to bring my pups when needed. Friendly staff and I feel very comfortable leaving my 2 dogs there when I need to be away from home.
My husband and I reached out to Woodlands a few months before our wedding seeking to board our puppy with him. The only issue is he’s a large breed puppy who was under a year at the time. Our vet didn’t recommended getting him fixed yet but most places wouldn’t let him stay. Woodlands accommodated him while still giving him the full experience. They allowed him private time outside so there was no risk to him or the other dogs but he was still able to have the time out like the other dogs. We also knew he would not handle being in a kennel at night well. Woodlands has these cute little rooms available which helped a lot. Also their add on menu ensured our puppy was entertained all day with hikes and treats. They really did right by our fur baby and I appreciate that they were very upfront with us when we took him for his temperament test about him needing extra time to get used to to being there because I think that extra day at daycare made a huge difference for him. I would 1000% recommend them to anyone in need of boarding or daycare.
I think my dog likes it here more than being home with us. He LOVESSS it here! As soon as we pull on the road he is whining with excitement! I cannot get him in the front fast enough. Good thing the staff is wonderful and likes him because he is so excited to be here. I bet he drives them nuts and they do not show it at all! I love the photos I get from his day! We did board him for a week during the summer and he looked happy without us. They do offer additional items to add on for the day and we love the eggs and pool! Murphy looks forward to many more days of day care!
