Black Hammock Island Park in Jacksonville, FL, is a beloved community park offering diverse amenities for families and their furry companions. This pet-friendly destination features a dedicated, fully gated dog park with separate play areas for small and large dogs, abundant seating, picnic tables, and plenty of shade to keep your pup cool during the sunny Florida days. Enjoy leisurely walks with your dog on the scenic paved trails that wind around the park, while kids can take advantage of the playground, sports courts, and open green spaces.
The park is known for its natural beauty, including riverfront views and ample opportunities for wildlife watching. Convenient water fountains, waste stations with poop bags, and trash bins are scattered throughout the park, making it easy to keep things clean and comfortable for everyone. With free access, regular community events, and a reputation for cleanliness, Black Hammock Island Park is a standout dog park in Jacksonville for pet owners who love socializing, exercising, and connecting with the outdoors.
It’s a small park and where one of my Water 💧 Treatment Plants are located.
I love all the options at this park: playground, basketball court, tennis court, sidewalk around the perimeter, so I can exercise and keep an eye on the kids while they play. Also, I’m thankful for regular community events at park, like festivals and fundraisers.
It would be nice to have a water fountain to fill bottles, and access to bathrooms inside community building (it is only unlocked for community events, but there is a separate portapotty available). Also, I would prefer a gate at the walking entrance, so toddlers can’t escape toward road.
It’s pretty much a typical park in Jacksonville but this one is kept clean. They have a small baseball field, tennis courts basketball courts and a new playground and a small walking track. There’s also a building that holds monthly meetings. The city owns it, and they keep it cut for the most part. They could keep up the baseball field a bit better.
The grandkids love it. Great outer circle paved trail to walk, run or ride your bike.
We enjoy going here with Camella all the time. This day we seen a bald eagle flying really high up! Hope you enjoy the park as much as we have over the past 4 yrs of Camella’s life!
