West Adams Heights Park: Your Pet-Friendly Spot in Los Angeles, California

West Adams Heights Park, located at 1949 Normandie Ave in Los Angeles, California, offers a welcoming green space for the local community. While primarily serving as an outdoor gym with amenities like climbing walls and exercise equipment, it also features well-shaded areas and wide paths for residents and their dogs to enjoy a stroll. Although it is sometimes referenced as a dog park, reviews suggest designated off-leash and fenced dog areas are not clearly established at this site. However, its pet-friendly reputation and proximity to the neighborhood make it a convenient option for walking your dog and enjoying the fresh air.

This park is well known for its shade—perfect for hot L.A. afternoons. The surrounding area has a strong police presence, providing a sense of safety, though visitors should note that the park could benefit from more regular cleaning and maintenance. Trash, damaged playground equipment, and occasional lack of poop bags have been noted by some users. Restrooms are present, and there is some parking available. It’s not a fully equipped dog park, but it’s a usable space for dog owners looking for a pet-friendly park in Los Angeles’s West Adams Heights area.

This park is more of a mini outside gym than a park. There is a climbing wall, leg press and arm press machines, and a couple of elliptical devices as well. Only thing is, sometimes the gate is locked, but most times it isn’t. You do find your neighborhood teenagers hanging out, but it’s nothing really to worry about, they just come after school sometimes to “chill”. Also, police presence is a fixture in the area, and everyone knows it. I like the place.
