🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Reed Street Dog Park is a favorite destination for local dog owners looking for a spacious and welcoming environment for their furry friends. Conveniently located at 888 Reed St, Santa Clara, this well-kept dog park features separate areas for small and large dogs, plenty of seating and benches, free poop bags, and lots of shade for hot days. With its friendly community vibe and ample parking (including handicap spaces), Reed Street has earned a reputation as one of the best dog parks in the South Bay.
One of the unique aspects of this dog park is the sense of community among regulars and the reliable maintenance provided, including weekly power washing. The natural grass and real gravel surfaces are perfect for play, and the park is ideal for both energetic pups and older, smaller dogs. There’s also a dog wash area for cleaning muddy pets before heading home. Despite occasional busy periods and some lingering odors, Reed Street Dog Park offers a safe, engaging, and pet-friendly space for dogs of all sizes to run, play, and socialize in Santa Clara.
Great dog park with lots of space on the big dog and small dog sides. Haven’t experienced any problems with other dogs in ~5 visits, and everyone has been friendly. My only complaint is the stench of pee at the big rock just inside the large dog area. I’ve been to plenty of dog parks and haven’t noticed such a concentrated smell before. I find it really overpowering. Hopefully it’ll be hosed off more often and occasionally cleaned.
If there’s such thing as “too popular”, this is it. The park is beautiful and bigger than most but this fact has made it overcrowded and difficult to enjoy. I witnessed 3 separate dog fights per hour spent and do not expect this to change or for there to be a queue system ever.
Edit: upgraded to 4 stars as I’ve been shown around and enjoyed my time now that i know the regulars. There is still the odd bad owner here and there but overall it’s okay, and if you’ve been victimized by ARLETTE, it is my pleasure to announce that she has moved!!
9 SEPARATE people with godawful experiences by her ignorance, attitude and immaturity. Everyone is thankful that she is gone so here is an ode:
A Breath of Fresh Air: Arlette Has Left the Park
For anyone who has ever hesitated to visit the park during certain hours, rejoice—Arlette is gone. After what felt like an eternity of her yelling, screaming, and staging verbal ambushes against polite dog owners, this park is finally reclaiming its peace.
Arlette’s reign of terror wasn’t just about her relentless nastiness; it was her complete ignorance of her own and her dog’s behavior. Her dog, a poster child for unchecked misbehavior, ran wild while she dismissed any correction as “someone else’s fault.” If another dog dared to set boundaries, heaven forbid, it was immediately a personal affront to her delicate world view.
People literally leashed their dogs out of fear when she was around. Many regulars altered their schedules entirely just to avoid crossing paths with her, choosing to disrupt their routines rather than endure the stress of her presence. The atmosphere she created wasn’t just uncomfortable—it was oppressive. People were shaken. Some trembled.
But now? The park is transforming. Dogs are playing freely again, and owners are mingling without the constant threat of being berated for imagined slights. For those who’ve stayed away because of her, it’s time to come back and enjoy the park as it was meant to be—a safe, happy space for all.
Here’s to brighter days and no more Arlette.
Edit 2: Maintenance people should power wash every Tuesday. There are layers of sticky pee on the pink cement area, a pretty gross patina.
Edit 3: the regulars are great people and overshadow the few bad things i mentioned. To hangout with us the best time to come is between 7-9pm. You can also attend late night as it is safe enough to come even as a small person, single girl or disabled.
Great place to take pets. Love how they have separate Play areas for small and large dogs. There’s ample seating and benches in both play areas as well as toys provided at the park. There’s also a separate area where you can clean off your pets if they get muddy. There’s also some really nice restrooms and plenty of parking as well as handicap spots. This is where I take a lot of my Pet Sitting clients pets and a place I constantly recommend to anyone with dogs. Please be on the lookout if you go to the large dog park side in the evening, there is a group of pet owners that are very neglectful of their dogs and they will attack you And if they do attack, you be warned those pet owners will spread rumors about you and your pet.
Reed Street Dog Park is one of the nicest we’ve visited in the South Bay! The park is well-maintained, offering both a big and small dog section, which is great for keeping different-sized pups comfortable. There’s also some much-needed shade for those hotter days, and the parking is convenient and easy to find.
However, like many dog parks, it does get a bit smelly, especially when the weather warms up. We’ve also noticed a few dog scuffles, mostly due to non-socialized dogs, so it would be great if more owners were mindful of their dog’s behavior—but this is the risk at any public dog park.
Overall, it’s still one of the best dog parks around. I also just heard about a new spot opening soon called Brindleden, and I’m excited to check it out! Hopefully, it brings a fresh experience for dog owners in the area.
Reed Street Dog Park, a magical space,
Where pups like Zara find their place.
A haven of joy, where tails never tire,
In fields of green, they run and aspire.
The air is crisp, the sky so wide,
It’s pure enchantment on every side.
Zara’s paws dance on the dewy grass,
Her happiness shines as the hours pass.
The trees stand tall, casting gentle shade,
In this perfect spot, where memories are made.
It’s more than a park, it’s a dream come true,
For every dog and their human too.
Zara loves it here, it’s her favorite spot,
Where joy and peace are always sought.
Reed Street’s magic, a gift so rare,
A place for pups, beyond compare.
