🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Vicksburg Dog Park is one of the top destinations for dog owners looking for a spacious, dog-friendly park in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Located conveniently at 5800 US-61, this park features separate fenced areas for small dogs (under 30 lbs) and large dogs (30+ lbs), giving every pup the chance to run freely in a safe and well-maintained environment. The park is ideal for travelers and locals alike, especially those staying at nearby campgrounds or hotels.
The park offers tall fences (over 6 ft) for security, shaded areas with mature trees, benches for owners to relax, and grassy fields perfect for exercise and play. While the dog park doesn’t supply poop bags or water inside the pens, it does have a water fountain in the larger park and trash cans placed nearby, making it easy to clean up after your pup. Be prepared for muddy conditions after rain and occasional uneven ground, but overall this is a highly rated, accessible, and welcoming space for letting your dogs off-leash in Vicksburg!
Both the large dog section and small dog section are plenty big! I took my two aussiedors out there and they loved it. A little muddy that time but it has been cloudy and rainy.
I love Vicksburg’s new dog park! Here are some highlights:
-There is a separate enclosure for “small dogs” (under 30 lbs) and “big dogs” (30+ lbs)
-Gets VERY muddy after it rains, so plan accordingly
-It doesn’t seem like a lot of people know about it yet…every time I have come here with my dog, we were the only ones
-Poop bags are not provided, so be sure to bring your own
We are kinda stuck “long term camping” since we are in the area for work and our two “four legged toddlers” are used to having their own yard with lots of space to run.
The dog park is making life much better for all of us!
A shout out to all who work hard to keep the park in such wonderful shape!
Two large fenced areas; one for small fur babies, one for large fur babies….we have large fur babies so my review is for the large dog area.
Tall fence…… so if you have a jumper…unless they can clear something over six foot…you got no worries ( we have a jumper…but thank goodness..his best jump is only over a four foot fence..LOL)
Large dog area has trees so plenty of shade, both area have a bench for humans..so there’s a place for us to get comfy when we aren’t chasin’ the boys around the park to burn some energy.
A bit of a heads up:
B.Y.O.W.
(Bring your own water)
*There’s no water inside the pens…there is a water fountain in the park to get water….we just bring our own gallon jug of water and water bowl.
**There are some large “invisible” hole in a few place so keep an eye out as you are walking around the large dog enclosure…..almost broke my ankle the other day when I stepped in one that was hidden by grass.
I’m not knocking the park…dogs dig…..my own yard has the same hazards in it from time to time…more just adding this so others can avoid the face plant of stepping into a hole.
***And of course as always there are folks who are slobs that don’t clean up after there pets(REALLY PEOPLE!!! It’s not that hard to bring a bag, pick it up…there’s trash cans right there to toss it in!!) so you do need to be on the look out for poo bombs under foot.
It’s still a FIVE STAR + park…..if you are traveling thru the area…stuck in one of the camp grounds or local hotels/motels and need a place to let your furbaby cut loose…it is worth the few minute drive out to this lovely location!!
This was suggested by a friend and it was a great space. One fenced in area for small dogs under 30 lbs and one for large dogs. We were going to do the correct space but a woman pulled up with 2 dogs, one was a large German Shepard that was barking at our dog before it got out of her car so we went to the small park where no dogs were. Our dog enjoyed being off her leash. Good grass area was cut nice with trees and a seating area for humans right beside the airport on 61.
usually pretty empty when we visit, which is perfectly fine with me. but if you’re someone who is trying to socialize your dog, this is probably not the best place since there aren’t usually a lot of people.
