Hilltop Reservation is a scenic and pet-friendly park located in Verona, New Jersey, popular for its peaceful hiking trails and accessible open spaces. Known for dog-friendly hiking, the park welcomes leashed dogs on its many miles of paths, making it a favorite spot for dog owners seeking outdoor activities with their pets. The trails offer a mix of grassy and forested areas, occasional deer sightings, and a tranquil atmosphere perfect for a relaxing outing with your canine companion.
Families enjoy Hilltop Reservation for its kid-friendly environment, and wheelchair-accessible parking is available. While the park offers beautiful natural scenery and some historical interest, it does not feature fenced dog areas or specific off-leash zones—so remember to keep your dog leashed while visiting. For the best experience, it’s recommended to use a trail app and park at the Community Center parking lot across from Cedar Grove Park, then enter Hilltop Reservation by walking through Cedar Grove Park.
Fun! Nice walk & path….lots of annoying midges, but no moskits biting
Nice trails. Parking isn’t great. The sanitarium history is super cool.
I used Google maps to get there, and it took me to a section of the park that does not have a good parking lot. 🅿️
Some parts of the pathway are broken and should be fixed.
This place is not busy. There were a few people walking and biking. 🚲
There are signs for a lot of animal preservation groups here.
Bigger than you’d think. Lots of back trails. I would recommend downloading AllTrails for navigation. Trail markers aren’t vibrant colors and they can be hard to notice. Some trails get close to peoples’ backyards which can be a bit awkward. Not really any sights, but some interesting history as well as deer sightings. We parked at the Community Center across from Cedar Grove Park. You can access Hilltop Reservation by crossing the street and walking through Cedar Grove Park.
Great place to take a walk, about 2 miles for a round, ups and downs, straight and curved, grassy and forestry, you can see dear wandering on grass eating sometimes, peaceful and calmly.
