Nestled in downtown Danville, Virginia, Pocket Park is a charming community space ideal for a quick visit with your four-legged friend. This dog-friendly park may be small in size, but it boasts a relaxing atmosphere with comfortable seating, a few picnic tables, and an inviting water feature. While primarily designed for social gatherings and peaceful moments, the park is also suitable for short walks or a quiet break for you and your dog.
Pocket Park stands out for its accessibility features, including an elevator (though access may occasionally be restricted). While there’s no dedicated fenced dog area, the park is a welcoming destination for anyone seeking a pet-friendly spot in the heart of Danville. You’ll also find shaded spots, great seating, and a playground for kids, making it a good choice for families.
No grass, no publi restrooms as far as I could tell, limited sunshine, Only service animals allowed.
I don’t understand why the lift isn’t adhering to ADA laws. It must be operable by the person using it and is not allowed to require a key to be retrieved to use it.
Wonderful little spot to get some work done or just relax. Very peaceful
I was very excited to visit the Pocket Park on Union St. I’d seen a lot of pictures and it looked like a nice place to just relax and sip coffee with my husband. I knew from publicity for the park that, even though it is below street level, that is was handicap accessible by way of elevator. I was so disappointed to find the elevator locked. The park really does look like a charming place and a great use of space. I took a few pictures from the entrance but was unable to actually enter the park after driving over specifically for this purpose. I have physical limitations that do not allow me to climb many stairs. I hope whoever is maintaining the park will consider leaving the elevator unlocked so the park is truly accessible to all. I know of other localities with public, outdoor elevators that do leave them open for use.
This is a great little spot in downtown Danville! It’s located next to The Bee Hotel, but it’s open to the public! It has comfortable chairs for relaxing and a few tables with chairs. There is a nice water feature. I was impressed that there is even an elevator, which makes it accessible to everyone!
