Beautiful area with a decent sized parking lot on an estuary, this is the trailhead parking for Cascade head lower and upper Meadows.

My friend and I wanted to see the views from Cascade Viewpoint, and let’s just say… we are not hikers. We saw online that it was 1.8 miles and thought, “Cute! We can handle that.” However, it definitely feels longer once you factor in getting to the actual trail, the walk up, and the loop back down.
The hike up is totally doable but let’s be real, it’s a workout. It’s really steep in parts, but there are flatter spots where you can catch your breath (and question your life choices).
We tackled this adventure in linen pants, white sneakers, and a mini fashion backpack holding exactly one bottle of water, clearly the peak of hiking preparedness. And guess what? We still made it!
The views at the top were 100% worth it, and the way down was a breeze. All in all, it took us about two hours, but every minute was worth it.
The signage was clear and easy to follow, and as a bonus, we even saw some gorgeous elk along the way!!
Definitely use the restroom before your hike. While as a Boston city girl the toilet was jarring…. It was clean and they clearly wash it well because it smelled fine and the floor was freshly power washed.
Highly recommend, and if we can do it, so can you.

However, we kayaked to the mouth of the river and that the was amazing!
I highly recommend kayaking out just as high tide is coming in and enjoy the ride!

Makes fishing through there a big obstacle coarse that I don’t recommend. Lots of kayakers and stand-up paddlers there as well. We saw Harbor Seals, an abundance of sea birds and some beautiful elk that made it a really lovely day.
