Diablo State Park, located at 157 Regency Dr in Clayton, California, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and their canine companions. Known for its breathtaking panoramic views, pet-friendly hiking trails, and varied terrain ranging from grassy open fields to scenic rock formations like Rock City, this park is ideal for dog owners looking to enjoy quality time in nature. Hikers rave about the well-maintained paths, excellent climbing opportunities, picturesque picnic spots, and the abundance of wildlife and wildflowers throughout the year. Don’t miss the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with 360-degree vistas and a welcoming visitor center.
While Diablo State Park is not a traditional fenced dog park, it is extremely dog-friendly with welcoming open spaces and plenty of grassy areas for your pet to run or relax. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the park’s extensive trail network. For dog sport enthusiasts, the park is also home to Diablo Peak Dog Sports, which offers agility classes from puppy foundations up to master levels on their dedicated fields. With nearby playgrounds, shelters with shade, and lots of seating and picnic areas, it’s a great spot for the whole family—just remember to bring water for you and your dog, and plan ahead as restroom facilities may be limited in certain areas.
Did the Six Peaks Loop trail and really enjoyed the ice cream and nice little museum at the top of Mount Diablo. Met plenty of kind humans there while we were taking our much needed break.

Here is a beautiful place for relaxing and hiking. Wide and narrow roads, sometimes saved shadow. Hiking shoes are a must-have. There are no restrooms on my way.

Beautiful park and very well maintained. We drove up to the main peak, and it was NULL per car to enter. Reasonable price for a beautiful place. The views were spectacular going up the mountain and at the top. Definitely worth it if you’re in San Francisco!

Simply gorgeous place on a springtime morning in late April. Grass still green, trees leafing out, stream still running and wildflowers blooming. Idyllic. I took Back Creek Trail going up, and was pleasantly surprised to cross the creek a number of times – the water is running, but it’s easy to cross. Came down Donner Creek Road, which was a little too wide for my tastes (I much prefer a narrow trail) but it was still very scenic. Saw some anise swallowtails on the way down. Delightful in every way.

Great trails, great park. Donner canyon to middle trail then Prospectors gap and up Summit Trail. 3586′ of climb, 9.8 miles and 4hrs.
Most trails very good and well marked. There are some technical areas that you need to be careful on the way up and especially on the way down (loose rock/steep) on the Summit Trail section.
