Rufus Rhodes Park offers a scenic, dog-friendly space in central Birmingham, Alabama, perfect for pet owners looking for an open, welcoming, and accessible park. The park features beautiful stonework, a cobblestone pathway, and a blend of giant oaks and new trees, creating plenty of shade and green scenery for visitors. While not formally a dog park, locals often enjoy walking their dogs here thanks to the ample open fields, paved and stone walking paths, and convenient benches and picnic tables for relaxing in the shade. The park is frequented by dog owners and is maintained with waste stations to encourage responsible visits.
Accessibility is a focus, with paved and cobblestone paths that are generally level, though some reviews mention broken or uneven sidewalks in spots. Street parking is readily available, and several accessible parking spaces exist right at the entrance. The park is well-lit in the evening, and the area feels inviting for families, with ample space for kids, shaded benches, and a playground nearby. While not fully fenced or specifically designated for off-leash activity, Rufus Rhodes Park remains a top destination in Birmingham for dog-friendly walks, dog meetups, and enjoying pet-friendly trails in a beautiful urban setting.
Dated and worn. I would not consider this a dog park since there is no fencing.
Awesome place to run your dogs and kids! Wide open space, clean park…..fun place to enjoy the outdoors!
Been here frequently over last few years. Great open green space for kids and dogs. Clean and well maintained.
Nice park with new trees planted including the long leaf pine. However the sidewalks are broken up to the point that it’s hard to walk especially for the elderly.
Beautiful park, well kept, incredible tile work inlay along the stone wall. It has a stone pathway. Lots of benches to sit in the shady spots. Giant, old oaks and tiny new trees that have been planted as well.
There’s a secret door, but it’s locked up tight, so no gnomes were seen yesterday.
So many places I’ve driven past and never paid any attention to and I’m glad I got a chance to visit this park. This park is not ♿️ accessible, but it you keep on the sidewalk you can see down into the park.
