My 5th great grandfather left his wife and children in Dover PA 1799( I live near Dover). and moved to Lowell and built a gristmill on the west side. Michael Seifert was killed tragically while working on in May 1818. He was 65. His young sons in Lowell sold it to Mr Fleck. This is stated in the newspaper Marietta Register May 15 1818 .

This is a piece of history. The locks on the muskingum are the last 9 man powered locks in the nation.
Lock masters there is very inviting. He’ll even show you how everything works if your interested.

Absolutely beautiful lock and dam. Great fishing at the point and at the dam park. Friendly operator during lock operation season, very knowledgeable! Tons of birds and wild life, beautiful flower beds and plants maintained there, nice picnic area, dog friendly, lock demonstrations available during operating season and free to lock through on a boat, kayak etc. Great piece of history and makes for a fun afternoon.
During operation from spring til fall all of the lock techs will give free demos to show you how it operates if you’re there walking the park and it will continue to be free to lock through with boats.
