I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I’m thrilled to have uncovered a hidden gem near Yellowstone. However, I also hope it can maintain its serenity and calmness.
Despite the complexity, I truly recommend stopping by. You’ll have the opportunity for an up-close view of Mesa Falls.

Took this road on our way to west Yellowstone. This detour was well worth the while, enjoying the view of the river and fall and the fall colors. I recommend it even if you don’t have too much time, you can just pullover to rest and take some pictures! If you have more time you can even hike around at some spots.

I’ve gone winter and spring and enjoyed Spring so much more than winter. Winter is beautiful, but the hike is VERY long and sometimes you’re in 3-4 ft deep snow for a good hour. It can be a very missable hike unless you have snow transportation. (They usually block off the road because the snow) In the spring you are able to drive up the road and can even get a lot closer to the water falls which is more exciting to me.
