If you’re seeking a vibrant dog park in Arlington, Virginia, Clarendon Dog Park offers a welcoming spot for pups and their owners. Located at 1299 N Herndon St, this park features a large, fully fenced sand play area where dogs can socialize and enjoy off-leash fun. The park is known for its open design and ample space for dogs to run, as well as sand surfaces that help with drainage but may get dusty or form puddles after it rains.
Clarendon Dog Park provides two water fountains (operational during summer), picnic tables, plenty of chairs for owners, and bowls for dogs. There are usually poop bags available (though restocking may vary). The park is also wheelchair accessible, making it inclusive for all visitors. While shade is limited, some trees offer respite on sunny days.
My dog and I didn’t like this dog park very much. The place is very dusty, there were no poop bags, and the water fountain was not operational even on a warm day. Most dogs were well behaved except for one whose owner was not interested in watching or correcting his dog. No one spoke to each other — everyone was sitting on their phones while the dogs played. Not the kind of experience I enjoy at a dog park.
Pretty great park, good fresh water source and plenty of room to let them really run. It feels like there are usually a pretty good amount of fun dogs here. The biggest downside is that it does tend to stink like piss, and when it rains you get big open ponds of water. New name is James Hunter dog park
I absolutely love this dog park! I’m honestly so happy with how well of a job Arlington County did in creating this awesome dog park. Of course, just be sure to keep an eye on your dog because, well, dogs will be dogs. So you just want to be sure your dog is safe, having fun, etc.
Really enjoy this dog park. We live in Clarendon but I’m sure parking sucks just for a dog park. It has a water fountain which they turn on during the summer, dogs love to play in it. Huge yard with sand, two water fountain and bowels for dogs. Plenty of chairs to sit on. Not really that much shade in the blazing heat. Have dog poop bag so you can pick up your dogs poop. Generally everyone is nice, controls their dogs.
Great dog park. Lots of dogs most of the time, except if it’s sunny. Even then sometimes people brave the weather and find shade under the trees, which is nice. There’s a pool area for dogs to cool off in. Poop bags available if management keeps up with restocking, which at times they don’t. Downsides are the play area is sand so dog gets dusty or dirty from sand if had a swim and parking after work hours
