Virginia Avenue Park is a local gem nestled just off the highway in the heart of Washington, DC. This dog-friendly park offers a spacious fenced dog park area that rarely feels crowded, making it the perfect destination for your pup to run and socialize. Pet owners appreciate the accessible entrance and seating, along with provided picnic tables, a community garden, and open green spaces for relaxation.
For dog owners looking for convenience and comfort, Virginia Avenue Park features free poop bags, water fountains (though these may occasionally need repair), and plenty of room for both energetic play and leisurely walks. The park is LGBTQ-friendly and creates a welcoming environment for all, featuring pet-friendly trails, a playground for kids, and even a nearby bike trail with views of the Washington Monument. While the park can get muddy after rain and could use more shade, its central location and ample open space make it a favorite for locals seeking an authentic, dog-friendly DC experience.
Really large dog park and never crowded which is fantastic. Gravel is finer than other dog parks which is great but can get messier when it rains. There’s also a grassy area outside of the dog park. There are free poop bags and water fountains.
Subtracting 1 star because night lighting is terrible. Kinda scary to bring your dog here at night.
Great location and lots of room for the dog to run. We visit all the time! I just wish there were a few more trees and some interesting activities in the dog park (a big rock or some bushes or something). It’s kind of barren and is only engaging for the dog if there are other puppers around.
Great park! My doggie loves it there and pups are pretty friendly too.
Great park but there’s a man with two German shepherds and a corgi and claims his dogs are “friendly” DONT BELIEVE HIM. One of the shepherds attacked mine and he has a puncture wound. Seriously they shouldn’t even be at a dog park! I hate when people bring aggressive dogs to the dog park.
It does get muddy after the rain and the water fountains are broken cause a puddle of mud.
