🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Located in the heart of Baltimore Highlands, Maryland, the Dog Park at Southwest Area Park offers a welcoming space for dog owners seeking a large, open area for their pets to play and socialize. This local favorite is known for its expansive grounds, with both a generously sized main section and a smaller, separate space, making it ideal for dogs of all activity levels and sizes. The secure fenced zones and double-gated entryways ensure a safe environment where pups can enjoy off-leash adventures.
While the park boasts plenty of room to run and play—plus the added bonus of leftover dog toys—some amenities are limited. Water fountains are available but have been noted as unreliable, so bringing your own water is a good idea; dog bowls are provided for convenience. Shade is limited to the cover provided by surrounding trees, and seating for owners is minimal, so plan accordingly on sunny days. If you’re searching for a wide-open, dog-friendly space in Baltimore Highlands, this park’s size and secure design make it a standout choice for local pet lovers.
This place is huge and lots of toys left for pups to play with. My dog absolutely loved it. The grass was green and surrounding trees provided some shade.

Lots of space and secure gates. Water fountains don’t work and are gross. They do have dog bowls there if you bring your own water. No shade at all but 2 areas available, 1 smaller one but still lots of space, and 1 extra large space, plenty of room for the fur babies to run and play.
It could be way better. The water fountain is real sketchy; sometimes it works, sometimes not. Hardly does on the smaller side. There is NO shade for the dogs or ppl. The amount of space is phenomenal, though. A+ on that.
A great example of a dog park, is Latrobe Dog Park in Locust Point. Do better Southwest.
