Located on Middle Country Road, Veterans Memorial Park is a local favorite for outdoor enthusiasts and pet owners alike. Known for its expansive, paved 9.3-mile loop trail, the park offers smooth paths perfect for biking, running, and dog-friendly hiking through the scenic Long Island woods. Wildlife sightings, rolling hills, and unique landmarks like the Grumman Memorial and Drew’s Tower set this park apart as a destination for the whole family, including your furry friends.
While Veterans Memorial Park does not feature a dedicated fenced dog area, it boasts clean bathrooms, vending machines, and a safe, well-maintained environment. The trails provide ample shade from the wooded areas on most stretches, though some parts, like Grumman Road, are less shaded—so bring water and sun protection for both you and your pet! This dog park in Wading River, New York offers adventure and relaxation, making it an ideal spot for walking your pup or embarking on a longer hike together.
Our favorite bike trail, hands down. Beautiful atmosphere, challenging terrain, and the trail is long enough that you feel like you got a legitimate workout when you’re done. On a beautiful day, and if you’re feeling particularly ambitious, walking the 9.3 miles can be quite the relaxing endeavor as well. We’ve also never come home with ticks or any other bugs on us, which is a giant improvement over how buggy Wildwood State Park has become over the years. And I love seeing all the wildlife! Turtles, groundhogs, deer, lizards, dragonflies – you name it!
One of the absolute best 10 mile bike trails on long Island. Rolling small hills, open straight aways, twists, turns, through the woods. You pass very old cemeteries, solar farms, and more. At the 8 mile mark is the Grumman memorial park. Here are the 2 flagship jet fighters on display. The best part of the trail is it is a loop. You don’t have to go back the way you came. OH, yes there are port-a johns.John’s. YOU CAN RENT BIKES.!!!
We love taking our 7 year old grandson here for a 9 mile bike ride it’s so clean and the paths are a smooth paved ride.
Best trail for biking and running. Cool photo op at Grumman Memorial and Drew’s Tower. Awesome bike ride on the old airstrip.
Went bike riding on the 9.2 mile trail with my 9 year old. It was a beautiful scene along the woods:, saw the mountain bikers in the adjacent plot, the fields, the pine barrens, the Wells Family graveyard and only found 1 Lonestar tick on my sock. The last leg of the ride along Grumman Road was arderous due to its lack of shade. Wear a tight baseball cap and lots of sunblock. There are clean bathrooms by the ice rink and a beverage and snack machine inside. Enjoy your bike ride!
