Experience natural beauty and a quietly scenic retreat at T. Bayles Minuse Mill Pond Park, located in the heart of Stony Brook, NY. This tranquil spot is perfect for locals and visitors seeking a peaceful place to walk their dogs and enjoy the outdoors. Though the historic pond has faced significant changes due to storm damage, the surrounding park area continues to provide a beloved green space for pet owners and residents.
The park features easy access to nearby walking and biking trails, connecting you to Avalon Park and the shores of Stony Brook Harbor. Dog owners appreciate the peaceful setting and opportunity for on-leash walks. Currently, seating can be sparse—most commonly large boulders, with requests from local seniors for more benches to be added. The area can become muddy after rainfall, so prepare accordingly.
Hello
I am a senior living in Stony Brook for the last 7 years. My senior friends and my wife love going to Mill Pond Park that you have created after the bad storm destroyed it. I am sending this letter about Mill Pond Park. We love everything about the park except for the lack of benches for us to sit on so we are able to enjoy our park. The giant boulders were a nice touch for your design but that is not seating for most people. Please consider some nice wood park benches throughout the park so we can enjoy what you have created at our park.
Sincerely
Tom MacCallum
It’s been a mud pit for almost a year. What’s the hold up oncrestoring the pond and rebuilding harbor road?
No longer here, it was destroyed in a storm about a year ago. It was a nice pond before.
Despite the heavy rainfall the day before, the water levels were surprisingly low today—the pond has decided to take a temporary hiatus in true vagabond fashion. It’s a great loss for those who cherished it.
However, thanks to the resilience of Long Island residents, we hold strong hope that this isn’t her final chapter. The pond will surely return better and stronger—perhaps with a shoring plan designed by Moses and endorsed by Noah himself.
Very scenic and tranquil locality. Stony Brook Harbor is a short ride away from here. Avalon Park next to it has a lot of long trails for biking and walking.
