🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
If you’re searching for scenic pet-friendly trails in Altadena, California, Cobb Estate Trailhead Echo Mt is a fantastic destination for nature-loving dog owners. This trailhead is the starting point for a variety of hikes, including out-and-back routes to Echo Mountain and other peaks. The trails are popular for their sweeping views of Pasadena, Hollywood, and even downtown LA on clear days. With moderate elevation gain and some narrow terrain, it offers a great workout for you and your leashed pup.
The trail is known for its clean paths, friendly visitors, and access to picnic tables and shaded areas at the top — perfect for a post-hike rest for you and your furry friend. Please note that there are no restrooms or trash cans, so you’ll need to pack out your waste. Street parking is available, although it fills up quickly, and there are no fees to enter the trailhead. Remember to bring your own water and be prepared for sun exposure.
Awesome hike for moderate or higher person’s. Trail was clean and people were friendly going up or down the trail. Some of the trail does get pretty narrow at some spots but it’s generally safe. Also, there are no trash cans so you’ll have to bring down your trash down with you. At the top, there are several picnic tables and shaded areas. No bathrooms, so if you have to go either hold it or use mother nature’s bushes to hide behind. Wear comfortable gym shoes or hiking boots, bring plenty of water and sunscreen as you’ll be exposed to the sun. There isn’t a parking lot so you’ll have to park in the street and these fill up really fast, otherwise you’ll have to park far. You don’t have to pay for parking or to get in. All in all I’ll be coming back here often as it was super fun.
Went on a cloudy day but I love it. I was lucky enough to get street parking near the trailhead. Started at 4pm and be back around 6pm. It wasn’t dark yet.
I went up to echo mountain (was about 5.something miles). I consider myself beginner and the trail was quite easy to hike. There were quite a few other groups walking very close to us.
A lot of signs when you reach the echo mountain picnic area. Next time I hope to make it to inspiration point.
Lots of fun hikes starting from this location! Loved both hikes I did here. Hiking is not too difficult for anyone. Also great for trail running and mountain biking if you know what you’re doing. The views are so so good – you can see from Pasadena to Hollywood and, on a good day, DTLA! On the turns you get full exposure to the beautiful mountains. Such a fun and relatively chilled hike. Very much recommended.
Hike to Echo Mountain is moderate. Best time is early morning since it faces west most of the time. It’s 2.5 miles and about 1500 feet of elevation gain. You can head to inspiration point via the steep Castle Canyon trail which is 1.8 miles and about 1400 feet gain or you can take middle Sam Merrill which is longer at 2.5 miles and same elevation gain of course. You could also do a loop. My recommendation is to go up Castle Canyon and down Merrill.
This was an awesome hike. Stopped at Echo and Inspiration Point. Not an easy hike. Beautiful views. Terrain can be difficult. Several hours. Be prepared.
