Marine Park Salt Marsh Nature Trail is a serene escape and a hidden gem within Brooklyn, New York. Located at the Marine Park Salt Marsh Nature Center, this trail offers dog-friendly, pet-friendly hiking surrounded by the beauty of native plants and bay views. The trail itself is an easy, level-one loop, making it the perfect spot for casual walkers, families, and those wanting a peaceful stroll with their pets. The area’s diverse birdlife and scenic rest spots offer an immersive natural experience, especially for those seeking a dog park environment in Brooklyn away from the city’s usual hustle and bustle.
Although the trail is popular with dog walkers, it is not a traditional fenced dog park—dogs are welcome on the pet-friendly trails but must remain leashed. The nearby Salt Marsh Nature Center provides seasonal restrooms and educational opportunities about the local ecosystem, making it a convenient and enriching destination for pet owners. The park’s large open areas and tranquil atmosphere also make it an appealing spot year-round for those looking to relax or take in the natural scenery alongside their canine companions.
The Salt Marsh Trails is an easy and enjoyable hike, perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxing walk in nature. I’d consider it a level-one hike with beautiful views along the way. It’s just over a mile, making it very doable for kids and teenagers as well. Before this, we tried some of the harder trails nearby, which I’d recommend doing with a partner for safety. This trail is a great choice if you’re new to hiking or just want a peaceful, scenic experience. Also the Salt Marsh Nature Center is nearby for bathroom and educational on plants and the insects that are around.
I ❤️ this place deeply — it brings me the warmth of home 💙💛
I have so many beautiful memories from here, and I’ve decided it’s the perfect spot for our wedding photoshoot

Beautiful park with nice trails and many breath taking views. The park is huge. Some active parts with basketball courts, soft ball fields, and more than enough space to ride your bike or just sit and enjoy the nature.
Love this loop only parts of the year. By the middle of summer, the bush has overgrown, and all the pesky insects come up to play in the morning. I hate walking or jogging this mid-summer. Other times of the year it is a really nice trail, lovely escape and much quieter than marine park oval.
This trail is a hidden gem right within the city — the moment you step onto it, you feel like you’ve left the noise behind and entered a peaceful escape into nature. It’s the perfect place for a walk if you want to clear your mind without having to leave New York.
You can spot beautiful birds along the way, and there are spots where you can stop and just take in the view of the bay. It’s quiet, refreshing, and feels like a little piece of countryside tucked into the heart of the city. Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and needs a quick escape without going far.
