If you’re searching for a welcoming spot for you and your pup to enjoy the beauty of Long Island, Cordwood Landing County Park in Miller Place, New York, is a hidden gem. Known for its pet-friendly trails and breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound, this park offers a peaceful hiking experience through woods that open up to dramatic bluffs and scenic beaches. It’s the perfect destination for those seeking dog-friendly hiking and a tranquil atmosphere away from the crowds.
The park is best for leashed walks on varied terrain, with trail options leading either to panoramic viewpoints or down to the water’s edge. Dog owners especially love the opportunity for dogs to swim in the Sound, making this park stand out among natural dog parks in Suffolk County. While amenities are limited—expect only a small gravel parking lot and minimal waste facilities—the stunning scenery and uncrowded trails more than make up for it.
Incredible views once you reach the top of the trail. There is the hard way and the easy way. The hard way is rewarding with a view of the sound that you will never forget. The easy way will bring you down to the beach but you miss the iconic view. Great place for lovers.
I went here for the first time about a week ago. I thought it would be a nice little hidden away park that would be fun to visit. There was trash everywhere. The small parking lot was filled with people grilling and getting changed right in the lot. Garbage pails were overflowing with trash. Walking to the beach me and my young daughter walked passed a man who just finished peeing in the middle of the trail. This could be a really nice beach but it was not the day I went.
This is such a beautiful spot! I love the hike through the woods, and it opens up to the stunning Long Island Sound. definitely go see the sunset here, such great viewpoints from the bluffs too.
Dog friendly so if your dogs love swimming – definitely take them!
There’s parking for around 8 cars or so and it isn’t crowded most of the time.
Beautiful and secluded. Small parking place but the views are worth it and beautiful
Very few parking spaces. Rangers do check. Maybe a dozen spots if everyone parks normally. Trail is marked and leads out to the sound. It was a nice walk. Ground is uneven so watch your step. It was a peaceful walk.
