Dog Trail, located at 605 Parkside Blvd in Massapequa, offers a unique destination for pet owners looking for dog-friendly hiking in Long Island. This pet-friendly park features several parallel dirt trails nestled near the water, providing a natural and scenic experience for both owners and their four-legged companions. The wooded paths are known for their beauty and tranquility, allowing dog lovers to escape city noise and immerse themselves in nature, with sights of ducks, swans, and woodpeckers along the way.
The park is kept very clean, with minimal litter or dog waste, and supplies doggy bags and disposal cans at the entrance. While dogs are allowed on the dirt trails closest to Parkside, paved paths on the Lake Shore side do not permit pets, making it important to plan your entry point. On weekends, expect the trails to be busier with playful pups and friendly owners, some of whom let their dogs swim in the lake. However, be cautious of tree roots on some trails and potentially hidden hazards like broken glass near the water. Overall, Dog Trail is a great choice for pet owners seeking scenic, dog-friendly walks in Massapequa.
They have a paved path and a path though some wooded area.
The entrance on Parkside are dirt trails where dogs are allowed. The entrances along Lake shore don’t allow dogs, its a paved trail ideal for riding bikes. This review is for the dirt trails/dog trail.
There are 2-4 parallel dirt trails, the largest runs closest to Parkside. I like the one that is closest to the water but there are a LOT of tree roots which hurt my feet and make it impossible to walk normally. I found the roots to be extremely frustrating. If they just added some mulch or a few inches of dirt over these roots, the walk would be way more enjoyable. I won’t go back because of this and its the reason for 3 stars instead of 4. This place is very scenic at some parts so its unfortunate its such a pain to walk on the trail by the water
This park is pretty clean as far as litter and dog poop. At the entrance, there are doggy bags available and a can to throw out the doggy bags when you’re done.
Its busy here on the weekends .. Lots of other dogs. Many go swimming in the water but be careful for broken glass.. Some that you can’t even see. I heard there are ticks here also but none that I’ve seen. There are ducks, swans, woodpeckers, etc. You can get to some areas where its silent from cars and enjoy just the sounds of nature which have a great sound here compared to other woods.
Overall, this place is worth taking a look. Its very scenic and has so many options and trails to explore. I have problems with my ankles though and this place has more roots to walk over than any other place I’ve been to. Ruined it for me.
Great clean park. Pet friendly.
