Thorndike Field Park is a spacious and pet-friendly dog park conveniently located in Arlington, Massachusetts. Popular among local residents and commuters alike, this dog park features a large fenced area where dogs can roam and play. Its direct access to Alewife Station and proximity to the Minuteman bike and walking paths make it a hub for both active dog owners and those looking for a neighborhood spot. With bustling morning and afternoon dog communities, it’s easy to connect with other pet parents and let your companion make new friends.
The park boasts open space and ample seating, including a middle bench area, although dog owners should be mindful of its unique design features, such as a centrally located light pole and pebble ground surface that may be tough on sensitive paws. Thorndike Field is also noted for its cleanliness and vibrant neighborhood feel, making it a solid choice for dog owners who value community and convenience. While there isn’t a separate area for small or large dogs and the ground may not be ideal for all pups, Thorndike Field remains one of the most convenient and accessible dog parks in Arlington, offering easy park-and-ride and public transit options.
It’s a really nice and clean spot for dogs BUT the design is not great. There’s a giant light pole randomly placed within the gated area that dogs can easily run into and hurt themselves. There is a middle bench area which is also harmful and I have witnessed first hand many dogs get stuck, fall off and even pinch their abdomen trying to fit over the benches. It really has a bad design regarding those things. Lastly, the ground is harsh on dog paws. Especially runners. It’s made of pebbles which can quickly irritate dogs with sensitive skin and leave paws swollen and capable of infection. I would recommend this spot for dogs because it is big and beautifully convenient but because of those 3 issues I cannot.
Great park down the allewife and Minuteman commute path. Lots of soccer game happening here
Good neighborhood park with a lot of space. Very functional and has access to Alewife Station and a few spots for park & ride
A perfect Gem for dog! I usually spend an hour here. Commuter dogs will be out and about from 6am to about 11am. The Afternoon dogs come out by 3pm to dusk if you’re looking for friends for your pal!
Very nice place. My school played a quick tournament there was very comfortable. I really like the surrounding areas.
