Discover the scenic beauty of the Appalachian Trail Piazza Rock Trail Head, located right off Main Street/ME Rt 4 and part of the famed Appalachian National Scenic Trail in Rangeley, Maine. Known for its pet-friendly trails and access to the iconic Piazza Rock, this spot is perfect for adventurers with dogs who want to explore Maine’s wilderness together. Hikers rave about the interesting mix of uphill and level terrain, picturesque autumn foliage, and the chance to meet a variety of trail-goers—including friendly maintenance crews and Appalachian Trail hikers passing through.
This trail offers parking (though it can be full during peak times) and beautiful scenery, making it an ideal starting point for a pet-friendly hike. While you and your canine companion will enjoy the outdoors, keep in mind that the trail may be slippery in the fall and can get busy during weekends or when groups host events at the trailhead. The area is not fenced and the park itself is not a designated off-leash dog park, but it remains one of the best dog-friendly hiking spots in the Rangeley area.
A brillant little hike up to a rock that looks like one of my favorite foods.
AT hikers come from all walks of life. Achilles headed North.
So pretty right now as the leaves turn. Beware though as those falling leaves are making the trail slippery. SW someone slip as they were walking up.
A great hike if you continue to the top of Saddleback Mountain. Great views from the summit after an interesting hike by three ponds. The trail has many flat areas mixed into to the uphill and downhill so it isn’t as hard as you might be thinking. Coming this trail in inclement weather is not advised as the summit is totally exposed and will freeze your ears off or worse.
First of all, shout out to the friendly and hardworking team who were doing maintenance on the trail!! Great hike and Piazza Rock is huge. Only 4 stars for a couple of minor reasons. Right at the start, after you cross the bridge go left up the rocks not to the right. Lots of bugs. And there were a very friendly group of older people cooking food and giving out water to Appalachian trail hikers, which I love, but there were about 8 of them and their cars were taking up room in a full parking lot.
