Sweeney Dog Park – Dog Park in Cranston, Rhode Island

Sweeney Dog Park is a small, fully fenced dog park located in Cranston, Rhode Island. This dog-friendly spot provides separate areas for both large and small dogs, allowing your pet to enjoy off-leash play in a secure space. While it’s conveniently situated for local dog owners seeking a quick outing or playdate, visitors should be aware that the park’s condition has been a concern in recent years, with reviewers mentioning issues regarding safety, cleanliness, and lack of amenities.

The park is primarily dirt, has minimal shade, and offers just one bench for seating. While there are waste bins and trash disposal options, water fountains and shaded shelters are not available, so be sure to bring your own water and consider timing your visit to avoid the midday sun. I am extremely disappointed and concerned after a recent visit to this dog park. The facility’s lack of maintenance has led to a dangerous environment, evidenced by sharp metal fencing that was sticking out prominently. Unfortunately, this resulted in a serious injury to my friend’s dog, necessitating immediate veterinary care. It’s crucial that the park management addresses these safety hazards to prevent any further accidents. I urge potential visitors to be cautious until improvements are made.

Also, there’s no where to dispose of your doggy bags. There’s no access to water for the pups. Honestly, it’s just a small fenced in area with dirt.

I am utterly disappointed and upset with the conditions at our local small dog park. It’s clear that there is a significant lack of maintenance and care in the upkeep of the park. The cleanliness standards are far from met, with trash often scattered around, and basic amenities like additional benches, seating areas, and dog waste bags are completely absent.

Most concerning of all, my recent visit resulted in a severe injury to my dog due to the unsafe conditions of the park. The fencing is in such poor shape that my dog suffered lacerations, which we suspect may have been caused by exposed sharp edges on the fence or even broken glass found within the park grounds. This required an urgent visit to the emergency room for stitches — a distressing and costly consequence that could have been entirely avoided if the park was maintained properly.

I strongly advise pet owners to steer clear of this park until significant improvements are made. It is not a safe

An update I got on the phone call with Director of the city and they said they were not going to at least reimburse the vet bills or fix the dog park because there’s a sign that says enter at your own risk so apparently for them that means that your dog can’t get injured and we will not help
They also forbid me to speak to the maggot himself about this.
What a city Cranston is.

I recently visited Sweeny Dog Park with a friend’s dog, and unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant. The dog suffered a severe laceration due to poorly maintained facilities at the park—a distressing situation that could have been entirely avoided with proper care and regular maintenance.

While the park does offer a space for pets to play, I urge potential visitors to exercise caution. The current state of the park presents real risks to pet safety. Please consider this warning seriously before deciding to enter. Your pet’s well-being could be at stake

If I owned one of these four businesses I would never want my name on this park. It is an embarrassment. There are no trees for shade. There is no running water to quench a dogs thirst. It’s mostly dirt. There is also a gate towards the back of the park that has an opening large enough for a 15 pound dog to get through. That is inexcusable, I should expect that my dog will be safe in that park and cannot get out! And it makes me ashamed to be a Cranston resident.

Small park, although there are separate sections for large and small dogs.
No water, no shade, and only a single bench. Bags and trash were available.
