The Old Reservoir is a scenic spot in Lexington, MA, drawing local dog owners with its peaceful lake, pet-friendly walking trails, and welcoming atmosphere. This dog-friendly lake area is known for its shady wooded paths and tranquil environment, making it an ideal destination for those seeking quiet, dog-friendly walks in the Greater Boston area. The site is particularly popular among those who appreciate a picturesque landscape and are looking for a relaxing place to walk with their pets.
The main highlight of The Old Reservoir is its beautiful lake, which allows seasonal swimming for both humans and pets when lifeguards are on duty. While the paths are short – just enough for a pleasant 10–20 minute stroll – the area’s natural beauty and the presence of many local dog walkers make it a favorite spot for Lexington’s pet community. However, visitors should note that after rain, portions of the trail can become muddy, and the water may get choked with weeds during dry spells. There are no large fenced or designated dog play areas, but the tranquil atmosphere and proximity to Lexington’s neighborhoods make it a worthwhile local dog park destination.
Water’s been low and choked with weeds for years. Swimming was open Saturday, but you couldn’t fish without a weed guard.

Nice place to walk. Or maybe swim on summer weekends when there’s a lifeguard.
Very nice place for swimming and just walking around
Peaceful place for a walk. Many dog walkers around. A portion of the walk around the lake gets too muddy and slushy after rains. When open, nice lake for swimming, but water is not the cleanest.
Quite small (10 to 20 min walk). Trees were really pretty. Check out @mcbiddie on insta and see a cool hyperlapse video
