Nice trail maps. It’s great they have restrooms. Would be a perfect place for a dog park. I also suggest walkies for the trail. My daughter tripped on one of the trails and hurt herself. Thankfully, she had a radio, and I was able to go find her. Spotty cell service.
Some of the best single track around! Unfortunately it’s very underutilized, but that does make for quiet, relaxing rides! But, be bear aware, we did get rushed along by a fairly vocal bear, that we never saw, on our last trip. Someone else had just told us in the parking lot that they had one running beside him the previous weekend.
We went to IC DeHart Memorial Park to walk some of their trails. It was a 45 minute drive from our AirBnB in Dugspur, but well worth it. It was the second week of October and most of the trail was covered with beautiful fall leaves. We took the yellow trail and walked the 3 miles in just under an hour. You want drive past the tennis courts to park by the picnic area, which has toilets with running water. They were out of toilet paper so come prepared. The trail meanders through beautiful woods, and ends back at the DeHart family graveyard. The tombstones tell their own history through several family generations. We talked to a local woman who takes her dog on walks there frequently. She said that the hot summer months are a completely different experience. In August her dog got stung by many hornets while walking the trails so her dog is no longer willing to walk those trails. Hiking in cool October was a great experience with no pests, so plan accordingly.
Fun little park near a cabin we stayed in recently. One of the few parks we could find in the area that wasn’t blocked off due to COVID, and a favorite. Perfect size for a little one, with swings, slides, a sandpit, and monkey bars. Plus the fire engine. 😊 The pavilion was empty the two times we visited, as were the fields and playground. The park has a small paved area to walk, and appears to be somewhat accessible for those with wheelchairs or strollers. Also some nice trailheads, but watch for ticks. Was a little bit in disrepair in a few areas (there’s a set of wooden stairs near a trailhead that appears to be falling apart and the fire engine was missing one steering wheel), but was still nice. There are several seating areas. Has public restrooms. Weirdly, the women’s restroom was locked but the men’s wasn’t when we visited. 🤷♀️
