If you’re seeking a dog-friendly adventure in Glen Rose, Texas, Dinosaur Valley State Park is a wonderful destination. Famous for its real dinosaur tracks along the riverbed, this park offers a unique combination of history, scenic beauty, and family-friendly amenities. The park is beloved for its well-maintained hiking trails, picnic areas, swimming spots, and the opportunity to see those ancient tracks firsthand. While not a traditional fenced dog park, visitors and their fur babies can enjoy pet-friendly trails and refreshing creeks ideal for cooling off.
Dinosaur Valley State Park is especially popular on weekends and afternoons and provides clean grounds, places to picnic, and a fun souvenir shop. There are plenty of spots with natural shade and the river for dogs (and owners!) to splash around, though leashes are typically required. Bring your swimwear and let your pet enjoy the outdoors, while you absorb the rich natural history and beautiful Texas landscapes.
As a child my parents took me here, so I knew I had to take my kids as well.
We stopped by the little “merch” shop (that’s my kids call it), and I got them some t shirts.
I would highly recommend bringing swim clothes for the kids and yourself, so they can swim close to the Dino tracks.
There was a high amount of algae today, so certain areas of the Dino tracks were not that visible.
Other than that we had a great time in the creek / river.
Fun!!!! Bring a bathing suit and something to float on. You’re going to get wet searching for dinosaur foot prints! Park has life vest to borrow which we used for the kids. We were there in July, water was very warm. The current was easy to swim through. We did as a day trip, but plan a weekend for extra time and fun!
Dinosaur Valley State Park is a true gem!
The park offers a wonderful combination of natural beauty and fascinating history. Walking along the riverbeds and seeing real dinosaur tracks was an unforgettable experience. The trails are well-maintained, and there are plenty of spots for picnics and relaxing by the water. It’s a perfect place for families, hikers, and anyone who loves nature and a bit of prehistoric adventure. Highly recommend visiting!
Great place to hike and explore! To many people after 12pm. They bring their grills, loud music and have no regard for nature or other people! Leave your crap home folks! Go to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature! Dinosaur footprints are visible when the river is low! Too many people stir up the water and make it a muddy slurry! Keep your fur baby’s home!
It’s a nice place to cool off in the water. I took my shoes off and walked across the slippery rocks to see the dinosaur tracks. I was amazed at how big they were! They offer life jackets to use for safety in the swimming area, too. It’s a very clean park that offers several hiking trails, horseback riding, and picnic areas. They also have a fun souvenir store. I can wait to go again.
