If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind outdoor destination for you and your furry friend in Glen Rose, Texas, Big Rocks Park is a must-visit. Known for its huge limestone boulders, shallow riverbeds, and scenic views, this park offers a blend of natural beauty and adventure that’s perfect for families and pet lovers. The shallow Paluxy River makes it safe for dogs and small children to cool off during hot Texas days, though pet owners should be mindful of occasional wildlife in the area.
With plenty of open space, unique rock formations for climbing, and peaceful picnic spots, it’s an excellent dog-friendly park for relaxing, exploring, and soaking in nature. While there isn’t much shade or designated dog park amenities, the park’s pet-friendly trails and playful river sections mean there’s still plenty to enjoy for active dogs and their owners.
Really cool place to cool off on a Texas summer day and perfect for little kids because the water is only knee deep in most places
Went on a morning trail walk and then had a picnic. Perfect weather, relaxing nature sounds, beautiful scenery, and it even felt like we had the whole place to ourselves because we went early on a Monday. It was all just perfect ❤️
This was so much cooler to me and the kids than we expected. They could have climbed the rocks for hours! The water was cold, but that had fun in the ankle deep, cooling off, and then back to the rocks. Even got a lizard visit!
The water depth is very shallow. Too shallow to really swim in if an adult. Very rocky near the river. No shade anywhere. The rocks and sand are quite hot in the summer.
Big Rocks Park in Glen Rose is a hidden gem for a laid-back family outing. The shallow river is perfect for kids to splash around, and the massive limestone rocks make it feel like nature’s playground. The sunset views were beautiful, and the whole area felt peaceful and relaxed. One thing to be aware of: we spotted a snake in the water, so stay alert, especially with young kids. Still, it felt safe overall, and the mix of water, rocks, and open space made it a memorable stop. A great spot for a picnic, photos, and cooling off on a hot day.
