🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Calhound Dog Park is a community dog park located just minutes from downtown Fort Worth, Texas in the Near Southside area. This compact and convenient dog run is ideal for nearby apartment dwellers looking for a dedicated off-leash space where dogs can safely exercise, socialize, and stretch their legs. The park is fully fenced, providing security and peace of mind for dog owners, especially those with puppies or dogs still learning recall commands. While the surface is all gravel and there is plenty of open space for fetch, note there are no trees and limited shaded seating available.
Calhound Dog Park is maintained with cleanliness in mind—poop bags are provided for user convenience, and the park is typically tidy, though busy times may vary. The park’s charm is in its simplicity: no complicated agility courses or elaborate water features, just a practical, low-key spot for exercising your pet. It’s especially appreciated by residents of nearby apartment complexes who lack private dog runs. Note that there is no on-site water fountain for dogs, and parking may be limited to street parking. Check local updates for potential park expansion as the area grows more pet-friendly!
I like this small secluded dog park. It’s not crazy huge or have a lot of obstacles for your dog, but it’s great for them to stretch out their legs for a bit and meet a new friend 😊
Small, all gravel, no trees and a limited area for humans. As a disabled person i can’t get down or up from the rickety chairs. After rain it’s a muddy mess and recently people are not picking up after their animals. I’ve had to clean sh!t off my dogs paws too many times. Today the interior gate is broken and there are obvious digging spots along the fence that a smaller dog could escape from.
For now this is the only dog park in Southside and it services the apartment complexes nearby since none of these complexes have a designated dog area. As this area grows and the dog ownership increase this park might not keep up.
I bring my 1 year old goldendoodle here about once a week. It isn’t a huge park, but it gives him a chance to run around off the leash. Most of the time he is the only dog there when we visit, but occasionally there are a couple smaller dogs there. There are always poo bags available and overall it is generally clean. The only complaint I have is there is no water available at the park for the dogs. Great location if you live in the Near Southside area and need a place to let your dog run!
It’s cute very small. Clean for the most part. 4 small very low to the ground chairs and two end tables. My baby was ready to go after 8 mins. He’s small and explored it all within those 8 mins. Very thankful for the thought of the park. More area around it maybe they plan on expansion. I hope so. Also he didn’t like the gravel refused to do his business on it. So had to make another stop on the way home. Also the parking lot I’m assu.ing for it was closed had to park on the street.
Nice small doggy park only 7 mins from me downtown! I do wish it was grass but love that it’s small as my newly adopted 6 month pup is still learning recall. Great place to practice recall without losing her at a park that’s multiple acres large. She was able to stretch her legs and run around playing fetch with me, and we had it all to ourselves. Definitely will be coming back.
